How To Get Rid Of The House Odors

by Jamie Shaw

There are many ways to rid your home of serious odors. Getting rid of bad odors inside your home is more than just a matter of making things smell nicer. It should also involve improving the quality of the air inside your home. Bad odors are usually the result of something bad, like mold, dust, pet dander, rodents, mites, bacteria, and so on. For example, the stale smell in a stuffy room is probably the smell of dust build up. Whether it is dust, pet dander, or mold, the smelly things can cause serious allergies and health issues to those living in your home.

Getting Rid of Bad Smells

If you are simply using an air freshener or candles to take care of smells, these are just going to be temporary fixes. These just mask bad odors. You want to actually remove the odors using an antibacterial disinfectant that will smell good and clean your surfaces.

Carpet Cleaning

Another helpful way to make your home smell a little better is to invest in carpet cleaning every few years. Carpet harbors and holds bad odors with the fibers and the pad underneath it. Carpet odors are usually worst got pet owners. In fact, any soft surface can harbor and absorb serious odors.

Duct Cleaning

Duct cleaning is probably the best way to permanently remove odors. Clean air ducts are important because they contribute to the effectiveness of your home filtering system. So, this will actually help draw bad odors out of your home. Indoor air quality is greatly assisted if you have good ventilation in your home. This goes beyond simply opening your windows to let in fresh air every once in a while. If your HVAC system is kept up, with clean ducts and fresh filters, your air will circulate much better, and remain cleaner.

Duct cleaning is more than just cleaning the inside walls of your ducts. It also involves checking your intake filters and vents to make sure that bad odors aren't being sucked in and distributed into your home. For example, if you have a small rodent carcass in your exterior damper duct, the smell from the animal would be blowing into all of your rooms. Of course, duct cleaning can save money by increasing the productivity of your HVAC.

There are a lot of things that you can do to fight against interior odors, but keeping clean air ducts is perhaps the most helpful. For more information, contact your local air conditioning repair service.
